Mixed for Black Swan Sounds by DJ Seriousblack
Blending everything from roots reggae to hip-hop, bhangra to house, electronica to kirtan, jazz to funk and soul to afrobeat, Montreal’s DJ Seriousblack is impossible to pin down musically. Her accomplishments during her evolution from urban music/soca/house DJ to sound ambassador have made her one of the most unique and sought after selectors in Quebec’s underground dancefloor and festival scene.
When she isn’t on the road, behind turntables, producing mixes or crate digging for new sounds, you’ll find Seriousblack on her mat, teaching in various studios across the island of Montreal, or exploring life with her son.
DJ Seriousblack is a certified Hatha yoga instructor who teaches everyday, helping seekers, creatives, budding yogis and parents to look inside themselves, making yoga accessible both on and off the mat. Her unique talents and tastes in blending music are highly sought after at local yoga classes, retreats and festivals all over Canada, the US and Europe. DJ Seriousblack has appeared at several Wanderlust festivals, and has shared the stage with MC Yogi and DJ Drez, among others.

This FREE Black Swan Wednesday offering is a super-danceable remix via Philadelphia-based MAMBISA - her take on Iemanjo’s “Ciencia Ancestral,” the exciting opening track to his debut release, Medicina.
The inspiration behind the mix is best told in MAMBISA’s own words: "When Iemanjo's album came out, I listened to it three times in a row and couldn't stop grinning. I felt like I knew the words already because they're so heartfelt, direct, exuberant, primal, pura medicina. I wanted to evoke the deep wilds of the jungle where this medicine tradition originated, and the light and shadow, the highs and lows of that ritual journey, paralleling and reflecting our journey in life. And I also wanted to add some jittery kicks and resonant bass while letting the original acoustic instrumentation shine.”
“Jittery kicks and resonant bass.” Definitely. And a whole lot of exuberance too. Don't go another minute without hearing "Ciencia Ancestral (MAMBISA Plant Bass-ed Remix)."
NOTE: This track is set to “name your price.” You’re very welcome to grab it for free, but we ask you to consider supporting the art you want to see in the world.
Whatever you choose to pay, we hope you enjoy the music. As always, thanks for listening
