The Black Swan Theory

The Black Swan Theory describes an event that comes as a surprise, has a major effect, and is often inappropriately rationalized after the fact with the benefit of hindsight.

It is identified through these criteria:

•The event is a surprise (to the observer).

•The event has a major effect.

•After the first recorded instance of the event, it is rationalized by hindsight, as if it could have been expected; i.e., the relevant data were available but unaccounted for. The same is true for the personal perception by individuals.

At Black Swan Sounds, we have two primary channels through which we express our take on this theory: our series of compilations and our weekly radio show.

The Black Swan Theory compilations are a series of digital-only EPs released every couple of months or so and featuring new, unreleased and under-heard tracks from Black Swan artists and others that we think you should know about.

The Black Swan Theory radio show airs every Saturday night (11p ET/8p PT) on Soul Traveller Radio. You can find an archive of shows here.

We're always seeking new material to put into The Black Swan Theory mix. If you have something you think fits, send us your Soundcloud link via the Contact page.
